At 12,799 feet tall, Granite Peak is the
highest point in Montana. Without
taking anything away from this
beautiful and challenging mountain,
the reason it is so frequently a
climbing destination is not for its
beauty or its technical challenges
but because it is numerically
superior: joining other “...est” things
the world is fond of noting. There are
many mountains in this range with
equal beauty, some more technically
challenging. Almost no one knows
their names, even in Montana. There
is nothing wrong with coming here
because it is the high point in
Montana. Just remember the
climbing enterprise is about a
powerful personal experience
waiting for you and not about what
others may think on your return
home. We hope Granite Peak simply
whets your appetite for more of this
country that forms the roof of
Montana.
